SALE PRICES OF STRING QUARTET INSTRUMENTS: CLASSIC VS MODERN LUTHIERY
Musical instrument prices in the classical field
The instruments are often made by hand, following ancestral techniques passed down from generation to generation. Each piece is the result of hours of meticulous work, where the luthier selects the finest woods and works them with remarkable precision. Violins from renowned luthiers, for example Stradivarius or Guarnerius, can fetch astronomical sums, sometimes several million euros, due to their history, their rarity and their exceptional sound quality. However, for a well-made classic violin instrument, made by a contemporary luthier, prices can start at a few thousand euros and increase depending on the materials and the reputation of the luthier.

Musical instrument prices in the modern field
In turn, it encompasses a wider range of techniques and materials. While some modern luthiers retain traditional methods, others innovate, for example using composite materials or integrated amplification techniques. These innovations can influence prices. A modern electric violin, for example, can start at a few hundred dollars for entry-level models and reach several thousand for high-end custom pieces.
It should also be noted that the popularity of the instruments plays an important role.
The violin and cello, which are in high demand, can have higher prices than the viola or double bass.
